Smith Micro Software Announces Mobile Music Agreement With IUSACELL For QuickLink® Music

Mar 28, 2007
IUSACELL - Mexico's Leading Technology Wireless Carrier Selects QuickLink Music to Complete Their Mobile Music Strategy

CTIA Wireless IT & Entertainment 2007 - Orlando, FL - Smith Micro Software Inc. (NASDAQ: SMSI), a leading developer and marketer of wireless communications today announced an agreement to provide its new QuickLink Music PC software to IUSACELL Group, Mexico's leading technology mobile operator. IUSACELL provides cellular services reaching nearly all of Mexico's population, including Mexico City. With the launch of QuickLink Music, IUSACELL will become the first-ever, full mobile music service provider in Mexico. The intuitive music manager service will offer IUSACELL subscribers the ability to transfer music files to and from their mobile phones, and allow complete control over purchasing, downloading and managing music on their PC.

Following the initial launch, QuickLink Music will support a "dual download" feature allowing IUSACELL subscribers the freedom to download music directly to their mobile phone and receive a copy on their PC from most industry music download services. Users can also enjoy the advantage of sending music files from their PC to their mobile phone and use the software to "rip" and "burn" music CD's.

How QuickLink Music Works:

  • Quickly set up the music manager application to transfer music files to the mobile phone.
  • Purchase songs for download to the PC from most any music download site that supports DRM (Digital Rights Management).
  • Organize the music library directly from the PC - allowing the user to create playlists, view and organize songs by genre/artist/etc.
  • Automatically sync songs to selected mobile phones.

"As innovators, we are always creating new product opportunities that enable our clients to enter new markets by offering the latest mobility services," said William W. Smith, Jr., President and CEO of Smith Micro Software. "We are very excited to partner with Mexico's leading technology wireless carrier and introduce the first-ever, full mobile music service offering to Mexico's population."

Music-capable mobile phones have evolved very quickly and capable of playing almost any form of multimedia. Taken together with the other needs today's phones already satisfy-imaging, messaging and voice-and it's clear that mobile phones may be poised as the next evolutionary step in mobile music.

"We are excited to add music services to our growing list of new product combination," said Gustavo Guevara Martinez, Director of 3G Applications of IUSACELL Group. "We believe QuickLink Music will help us achieve our goals to increase mobile handset sales as our subscribers upgrade to new mobile devices capable of playing music."
