Aliso Viejo, CA -- The Internet and Software Solutions Division of Smith Micro Software, Inc. (Nasdaq: SMSI), a developer and marketer of software solutions for the Internet development tools market, today announced that the anticipated new version of the WebDNA™ development tools is now available.
The various editions are sophisticated eBusiness rapid development and deployment products based on WebDNA, Smith Micro's popular and easy-to-use Internet application generator. The five editions, Developer, Partner, Commerce, Intranet, and Enterprise, comprise the WebDNA family. Each are tiered for functionality and priced to closely match specific developer requirements.
In addition to its prior benefits, WebDNA Version 5.0 introduces XML document parsing and validation, XSLT translation, and XPath Query support, enabling developers to quickly and conveniently transfer XML-based data from virtually any file or application to a WebDNA database for web services use. Other new features include a Web Services Wizard, an Integrated Development Environment (IDE 'Lab') with an integrated development environment, the WebDNA Language Extensions, an ISP Sandbox and support for WSDL, XML, and XSLT.
The release of WebDNA 5.0 also means that the Enterprise Edition is now available for the developer and enterprise community. The Enterprise Edition helps workgroups organize and control the development process via its unique, browser-enabled Workgroup Content Management technology. Website projects can be broken down into sub-project work areas, with workgroups assigned security privileges to specific work areas. Workers can also manage "check-in" and "check-out" of versions, ensuring that changes and additions are coordinated among team members. As supervisors approve various submitted elements, emails are automatically sent to developers that notify them of the change.
"WebDNA 5.0 is a must upgrade for all serious business users, developers and alike that want to deliver critical mission web-applications," says Natai Aventaggiato, CEO of ComputerOil GmbH in Zurich Switzerland and beta tester of WebDNA 5.0. "The XML parser will enable our own Content Management Solution to use the next 'big thing' technology. Finally we will be able to let each of our customers have their own development environment with the ISP Sandbox feature, as well. SMSI has made the lives of many developers with the 5.0 version an easier one," Mr. Aventaggiato concludes.
"The release of WebDNA 5.0 culminates a project we started at the beginning of 2002," said Chris Lippincott, General Manager of the Internet and Software Solutions business unit at Smith Micro. "We can now offer a comprehensive set of tools that assist the developer and enterprise communities in building and maintaining a website," he concludes.
"We are really looking forward to WebDNA Version 5.0. It will enable all of the WebDNA developers to seamlessly work with Web Services and XML in a way that is miles ahead of our competition," said Alain Russell, Managing Director of Black Pepper Interactive Ltd. in Auckland, New Zealand and beta tester of WebDNA 5.0."Add to this the new Sandbox features and we have a more versatile and secure platform than we've ever had before."
WebDNA has generated a strong following among solution providers and website developers due to its ease of use, rapid learning curve, flexibility, performance and its support of multiple platforms including Windows, Mac, Unix, Linux and Solaris. Based on WebDNA's successful track record in the development community, Smith Micro upgraded the technology to a large degree from the feedback received from its development community and customer base.
