ALISO VIEJO, CA (August 7, 2000) - The Wireless & Broadband Division of Smith Micro Software, Inc. (Nasdaq: SMSI), a developer and marketer of a wide range of software and service solutions for the Internet market, today announced that Kyocera Wireless Corporation will bundle Smith Micro's QuickLink Mobile 2000 and QuickLink Fax software solutions with the new Kyocera Connectivity Toolkit. The Toolkit allows Kyocera phone users to configure their CDMA handsets as wireless modems for their PCs and allows easy management of contact directories and other data stored within the phones.
"The Kyocera Connectivity Toolkit will substantially simplify wireless data access for PC users," said Masahiro Inoue, CEO and Acting President of Kyocera Wireless Corp. "By utilizing a Kyocera CDMA wireless phone in combination with QuickLink software solutions bundled with the Kyocera Connectivity Toolkit, PC users will enjoy a reliable and an easy to use solution to their Internet connectivity needs that works anywhere CDMA wireless services are available."
QuickLink Mobile 2000 offers an easy-to-use wizard program that walks users through installing the wireless phone as a device on their PC. The application then functions as a "mobile dashboard", displaying critical cell phone metrics such as signal strength and battery strength in one easy-to-monitor PC display. When downloading content from the Internet, QuickLink Mobile 2000 allows the user to control the download of graphics to maximize the throughput of the wireless connection. QuickLink Mobile 2000 also enables the wireless management of email by allowing the user to see the number and size of new messages. QuickLink Fax functions as a wireless fax companion to QuickLink Mobile 2000 to satisfy the ever-increasing mobility requirements demanded by wireless phone users.
"The combination of QuickLink Mobile 2000 and QuickLinkFax is a powerful yet easy-to-use solution providing mobile office functionality for wireless phone users," said Rick Wyand, General Manager of Smith Micro Software's Wireless & Broadband Division. "QuickLink Mobile 2000 and QuickLinkFax provide easy, reliable, wireless Internet connectivity to millions of cell phone users across the globe," commented William W. Smith Jr., President and Chief Executive Officer of Smith Micro.
