Kits to Feature Smith Micro's QuickLink Mobile Software, Offering Instant Mobile PC Access to the Internet Via Mobile Phone
ALISO VIEJO, CA -- The Wireless & Broadband Division of Smith Micro Software, Inc. (Nasdaq: SMSI), a developer and marketer of a wide range of software and service solutions for the Wireless and Broadband market, today announced that TELUS MobilityTM, a leading Canadian provider of wireless voice, data, and Internet services, has chosen Smith Micro to provide wireless modem kits for TELUS Mobility clients. The kits, to be sold through TELUS Mobility authorized dealers and stores across Canada, will enable clients to connect their laptops to the Internet using their mobile phone as a wireless modem, creating true Internet connectivity anytime and anywhere.
TELUS Mobility's wireless modem kits will utilize QuickLink® Mobile, Smith Micro's highly popular mobile Internet software. The kits, to be produced by Smith Micro, will include a serial port cable for fast and easy connection to any TELUS Mobility Web ready phone. Both of TELUS Mobility's major wireless networks will be supported: digital PCS, the company's CDMA network; and Mike, a digital network built on Motorola iDEN technology.
"These kits will greatly enhance a client's mobile connectivity by turning their existing Web ready PCS or Mike phone into a wireless modem for their laptop," said Robert Blumenthal, Vice President, Products and Services, at TELUS Mobility. "Their ease-of-use and advanced performance will greatly benefit TELUS Mobility clients who need to stay in touch on the road via e-mail, Web surfing, or company network access."
"Smith Micro is proud to extend the convenience and utility of TELUS Mobility phone products for both business and personal use," said William W. Smith, Jr., President and CEO of Smith Micro. "This contract is a significant step for our company in the wireless marketplace, and will greatly advance our penetration in North America."
QuickLink Mobile is a dependable, versatile, and efficient way to turn any mobile digital phone into a wireless modem. Among its many features is a unique Wireless Internet Accelerator that filters graphics to significantly boost data transfer; the software also uses FourelleTM Systems' VenturiTM Personal Client compression software for up to 3x faster wireless transmissions.
To increase productivity, QuickLink Mobile includes a Message Preview function that displays only subject lines of emails, enabling users to choose which critical emails to read. The Digital Dashboard shows battery status and signal strength, while automatically recording all Internet calls to make account reconciliation easy at month's end. Best of all, QuickLink Mobile's installation wizard enables users to install QuickLink Mobile and get connected to the Web in just minutes.
TELUS Mobility's wireless modem kits for PCS and Mike will be available in late October through TELUS Mobility authorized dealers and stores throughout Canada.
