The Oregon-based ISP will offer Smith Micro's new all-in-one Internet communications software to new subscribers
ALISO VIEJO, CA - Smith Micro Software, Inc. (Nasdaq: SMSI) today announced an agreement with Alveus Internet, an Internet Service Provider ("ISP") based in Aloha, Oregon. Alveus will package Smith Micro's new Internet CommSuiteTM with a digital camera and offer the bundle as part of its three-year contract with its subscribers.
Internet CommSuite is a new all-in-one Internet communications package that merges multiple Web communications into one user-friendly package. Internet CommSuite enables users to phone, fax, video phone, audio and video e-mail and conduct other interactive activities over the Internet - with a single piece of communications software.
Internet CommSuite is optimized for new broadband technologies such as cable and xDSL, as well as for traditional analog modems. Alveus will use the software as an incentive both for new 56k analog modem customers and for subscribers to a new digital ADSL service scheduled to launch this month.
"Our marketing strategy is to promote what users can do on the Internet rather than promoting Internet access itself, and Internet CommSuite fits right into that model," said Ed Preble, General Manager of Alveus Internet. "With the combination of a digital camera and Internet CommSuite, our subscribers will be able to have face-to-face conversations with people anywhere in the world, send video e-mails to their friends or relatives, and do a lot of other things beyond simply surfing. We think this will have great appeal."
Alveus also plans to partner with security companies to take advantage of the Video Sentry feature of Internet CommSuite, which makes it possible to detect motion with a video camera, record it, save it to the hard drive or e-mail it, and/or trigger a sound file such as "Sorry, I'm away for lunch." Preble said he is currently in discussions with several security firms that are considering offering Internet CommSuite, a digital camera and Internet access through Alveus to their customers.
"We are delighted to be joined with Alveus Internet in a software bundling relationship because we see the product as very synergistic with ISP service," said William W. Smith, Jr., Smith Micro's President and CEO. "This agreement is also significant because it marks another commercial endorsement for our strategy of creating Internet software that has been optimized for new high bandwidth technologies."
Internet CommSuite gives users all the software capabilities needed to talk for free over the Internet, make Internet video phone calls, send Internet faxes that bypass long-distance phone charges, create audio or audio/video e-mails, use an Internet answering machine, and more. All functions are activated from a single-click, easy-to-use software interface that resembles a TV remote control.
