Advanced Paging Application Now Allows Users to Page Directly From Windows 3.x, Windows 95, Windows 98 and Windows NT Desktops
ALISO VIEJO, CA--Smith Micro Software, Inc. (Nasdaq: SMSI) today announced the release of HotPage Version 3.0, the latest edition of its wireless messaging software that provides message management and transmission to alphanu- meric and numeric pagers. The new 3.0 version has been enhanced to meet the needs of both users and paging service providers for a self-contained, easy-to-use application that can send pages directly from Windows 3.x, Windows 95, Windows 98 and Windows NT PCs.
With HotPage Version 3.0, sending an alphanumeric or numeric page to individuals or groups is as easy as sending an e-mail message. Users simply select recipients from the program's address book, or type in a new user name and HotPage the page. HotPage also eliminates the need for users to call a paging operator every time they want to send a message, as personal or confidential messages can be sent directly from the desktop without third party intervention. In addition, HotPage allows users to send pages on demand, or schedule pages for a future time, and users even have the flexibility to set up repeat pages for sending reminder messages throughout a day, week, or month.
The versatile HotPage also includes the ability to forward incoming e-mail messages directly to a user's alphanumeric pager, and it can be configured to manage the flow of information to the pager. In particular, it allows users to receive messages based on priority, from a specific individual, or even to delay messages until after an important meeting or event.
With HotPage, the need for users to contact a paging operator every time they want to send a message is eliminated," said Scott Mackay, product manager for Smith Micro Software. "Our customers have told us that this is a very important feature because it offers the ability to send confidential or personal messages right from their desktop without having to relay them to a third party for transmission."
For outbound paging, HotPage Version3.0 requires a PC running Windows 3.x, Windows 95, Windows 98 or Windows NT; e-mail forwarding requires Windows 95 or Windows NT 4.0. An alphanumeric pager is also required for receiving inbound e-mail text messages. HotPage is compatible with any AT command set compatible modem or TAPI compliant modem.
