Smith Micro Software is conducting a search for a highly motivated, results oriented Senior Systems Engineer. This position will be located remotely in the U.S. – Seattle region preferred or Kansas City, Missouri –  and reports to the Director of Systems Engineering and ultimately, the SVP Worldwide Sales.  You will provide technical sales support to the account team, interfacing with customers and partners, and acting as the technical liaison for the customer to the product management and engineering teams at the company.  You will be instrumental in defining how best we position and present our solutions to our customers and prospects, and managing pre-sales activities. The Senior SE role contributes to the achievement of new contracts, ongoing revenue targets, and success will be measured in part on those achievements.

Responsibilities: I can do that!

  • Maintain technical knowledge of the product offerings; including the ability to articulate the value of the product through presentations, and independently create and give demonstrations to customers
  • Proactively identify new sales opportunities based on thorough understanding of customer requirements and put these into the perspective of a sales process
  • Understand business value, competitive differentiators, and technical advantages of solutions
  • Demonstrate the capability to excel in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrate deep knowledge of Smith Micro’s market: mobile and cable operators and aligned ecosystem players
  • Be the technical leader in the sales account team, guiding successful technical evaluations of products
  • Lead by example, translate corporate and sales vision into results, become an agent for change, and emphasize a customer service attitude
  • Jointly own customer success, leveraging best practice and focus to ensure our customers are delighted. Work cross functionally with counterparts in Product Management, Program Management, Development, Quality Excellence and Support to help ensure customer success
  • Document and gain agreement from the customer for new or modified product features and customization requests, working closely with Product Management and Development
  • Communicate feedback from customers that drive new product enhancements and solution ideas within the company
  • Work cross functionally with other organizations to ensure alignment with sales, provide process and product feedback, and resolve critical customer situations
  • In close collaboration with Product Management, create and maintain standard integrated ‘out of the box’ demos by with demo scripts and recordings
  • Lead RFP responses and technical sections of large/complex customer proposals, with accountability for planning, gathering and preparing materials from different sources
  • Deliver Sales Engineering supporting activities needed to achieve quarterly sales targets
  • Develop and manage a tight and trusted technical relationship with prospects and customers at all levels 
  • Ensure clean hand-offs between pre-sales and Program Management. Maintain oversight of major Professional Services engagements to ensure successful outcomes are reached
  • Become a technical SME for the customers and prospects, answering technical questions on Smith Micro products and roadmaps
  • Work closely with technical writers on technical documentation and validate customer-facing documents
  • Be able to travel 30%-50% of the time as required for customer and partner interaction, to explain technical concepts and designs to both prospects and clients
  • Be able to accommodate international travel

Requirements: I’ve already done or have that!

  • At least 5+ years of pre-sales technical management experience is required
  • At least 10+ years’ experience in technically selling and supporting software products to mobile operators, cable operators or telecom organizations is preferred
  • Excellent communication skills – written, oral and presentation. Ability to communicate complex ideas; very articulate
  • Experience supporting complex, diverse and fast-moving sales processes involving multiple customer stakeholders
  • A highly analytical approach, critical thinking, and problem solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple customer engagements concurrently, with strict deadlines and detailed reporting capabilities
  • Experience working with Product Management to ensure a detailed understanding of end to end products, solutions and value drivers derived from insights gained from customers and prospects
  • Experience working with Tier 1 mobile operators is required; experience working with global customers is desired
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, in particular the ability to present complex concepts in an organized and articulate manner to both commercial and technical audiences is required
  • Analytical in approach with the ability to map customer requirements into solution vision and application demonstration scenarios is required
  • Ability to interface directly with customers and solve customer problems
  • Ability to provide deep technical support to customers to meet or improve upon customer’s requirements
  • Experience with cloud platforms, mobile Operating Systems, mobile data networks and web services is required
  • Experience with networking, server, application, virtualization, big data, and web technologies is desired
  • Exposure and comfort with areas such as statistics, data analysis, mobile security, and optimization is desired
  • Aptitude to pick up new technologies and trends as they become relevant for the business and our platforms is required
  • Proficient in MS Project, MS Excel, MS Teams, Jira, SharePoint, and Tableau
  • Ability to work with diverse groups of people; challenge and lead people toward their peak performance
  • Ability to work independently with strong analytical skills, self-motivated and excellent interpersonal skills
  • Multiple-language skill is desired


  • Bachelor’s Degree in a technology-related discipline
  • Master’s degree preferred
