Smith Micro Software Ships WebCatalogTM 4.0, Featuring Expanded Wizard Capabilities for Building Online Stores

Jun 07, 2000
No Programming Required for Beginners; Customization Available for Advanced Users

Aliso Viejo, CA - Smith Micro Software, Inc. (NASDAQ: SMSI), a developer and marketer of Internet communication software, is now shipping WebCatalog(TM) 4.0, the newest edition of its eCommerce and Web publishing platform. Version 4.0 adds a robust new series of StoreBuilder templates that simplify the design, updating and administration of online stores directly from a Web browser; automatic WAP-enabling of any StoreBuilder-based storefront to attract new wireless customers; free extensions for Macromedia's Dreamweaver HTML Editor to ease custom development of more complex sites; and other new productivity features.

WebCatalog enables users to create an unlimited number of eCommerce storefronts equipped with back-office order management/payment authorization support, eliminating the need to purchase multiple licenses. It makes sophisticated eCommerce design and management accessible to novice users, while still offering the full functionality experienced users demand.

In addition to quickly setting up shopping cart functionality, the new version's expanded StoreBuilder Wizard enables users to instantly upload graphics, edit product placement, change pricing information, add product options such as size and color, alter the look and feel of a store, select payment processors and more - all from a browser. Novices can build online stores with no programming, and more experienced designers can customize storefronts as desired.

"WebCatalog 4.0's new StoreBuilder templates allow for rapid building of eCommerce sites, and its scripting language allows us to create highly dynamic content from a host of data sources, including Java applets, external databases as well as WebCatalog's internal database," said Jason Tyler of Three Island Press, a web site design and hosting firm based in Rockland, Maine. "These capabilities allow us to develop sites for clients more rapidly than before."

"Our newest version of WebCatalog offers significant enhancements to streamline the process of building and maintaining online storefronts, and it offers much of the functionality of higher-end tools at a much lower cost," said Chris Lippincott, General Manager of Smith Micro's Internet Solutions Division. "With the continued explosion in eCommerce, it is an essential tool for putting and keeping online stores in business."

WebCatalog 4.0 retails for $3,495. For more information, visit Smith Micro Software's Internet Solutions Division home page at
