Aliso Viejo, CA - - Smith Micro Software, Inc. (Nasdaq: SMSI), a leading worldwide developer and marketer of Internet communication software, today announced the promotions of Robert W. Scheussler to Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, and David P. Sperling to Vice President of Engineering and Chief Technology Officer.
Smith Micro Appoints New Chief Operating Officer
Prior to his promotion to Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Scheussler, 53, had been the company's Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer since May 1995. He was given responsibility for the company's marketing efforts in May 1999 and was elected to Smith Micro's Board of Directors in February 1996. Prior to joining Smith Micro in May, 1995, Mr. Scheussler was the Director of Architecture and Technology for Rockwell International, a company he was with since 1973. Prior to his tenure at Rockwell, Mr. Scheussler was with the Grumman Corp. He graduated with a B.S. degree in Industrial Engineering from Pennsylvania State University and an M.S. degree in Operations Research from Polytechnic University in New York.
In his new position as Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Scheussler will report to William W. Smith, Jr., Smith Micro's President and Chief Executive Officer. Mr. Scheussler will have overall responsibility for the company's North American sales, marketing, technical services, and research and development departments.
New Chief Technology Officer Named
Prior to his appointment as Vice President of Engineering and Chief Technology Officer, Mr. Sperling, 31, had been the company's Director of Software Engineering since April 1992. He takes over the Chief Technology Officer position from Mr. Scheussler. Mr. Sperling began his professional career as a software engineer at Smith Micro in 1989, and currently has three patents pending for various telephony and Internet technologies. Mr. Sperling earned a B.S. degree in Computer Science from the University of California at Irvine.
As Chief Technology Officer, Mr. Sperling will report to Mr. Scheussler and will be responsible for the oversight of product development, development methodology, and technology management company-wide. He currently manages five software groups for Smith Micro in locations throughout the United States.
