ALISO VIEJO, CA – July 24, 2014 – Smith Micro Software, Inc. (NASDAQ: SMSI) today launched its AniMates™ mobile messaging app on iTunes®, allowing iPhone® users to express themselves with animated characters, colorful backgrounds and dynamic voice effects. With AniMates, users can select from a wide variety of characters that will lip-synch to a voice message, and then share their messages with anyone via SMS, email or Facebook. Smith Micro unveiled AniMates for Android last month, and users on either platform can communicate app-to-app over any carrier network.
“I’m incredibly proud of AniMates because it’s the result of a fantastic collaboration between engineers from our CommSuite® carrier-grade messaging platform and our award-winning Anime Studio® animation product,” said William W. Smith, Jr., CEO at Smith Micro. “For years people thought that our graphics and wireless businesses were incongruous, but AniMates perfectly illustrates the harmony between digital design and mobile messaging. Now that it’s available on the two dominant smartphone platforms, we look forward to bringing even more creativity and innovation to AniMates.”
Key Features of AniMates:
- Sending and receiving talking character messages for free
- Diverse content library offering dozens of characters and backgrounds, with new content added every week
- Ability to use your own photo background from the phone gallery
- Optional voice effects with variable pitch control
- See and manage messages from other AniMates users through an inbox view
- Share messages with anyone via email, SMS or Facebook
- Easily access contacts through the phone address book
- Extend recording time to 2 minutes with premium upgrade
“We’ve had great feedback since we launched AniMates for Android, and the question I’ve been getting every day since is, ‘When will it be on iTunes?’” said Vinay Chandra, Vice President of Product Management at Smith Micro. “Well, it’s here, and it’s just the beginning. We have so many exciting new features in the works for AniMates – not to mention the tremendous content library being built. AniMates users have a lot more to look forward to in the coming months.”
AniMates is available on iTunes® and Google Play™ for mobile users in the US and Canada. The app includes five free characters and five free backgrounds, with premium content available for purchase. In the coming months, Smith Micro will begin offering content bundles that include theme-based characters and backgrounds. Smith Micro also plans to expand the app to other countries and languages later this year.
