QuickLink Mobile Allows Enterprise Users to Move Between Cellular Networks and Wi-Fi Coverage Securely
MOSCONE CENTER, BOOTH 711, SAN FRANCISCO, CA - Smith Micro Software Inc. (NASDAQ: SMSI), a developer and marketer of a wide range of software for the wireless market, announced QuickLink® Mobile Enterprise edition-a wireless data connectivity solution for the enterprise market that takes advantage of high-speed mobile data networks and Wi-Fi technology to create a powerful, seamless mobile business tool.
QuickLink Mobile Enterprise delivers a secure, reliable and consistent connection experience without being plugged into a network or modem-line connection. Enterprise users have the benefit of using mobile phones or PC cards to connect to multiple high-speed mobile data networks including CDMA/1xRTT/ EV-DO and GPRS/EDGE/UMTS networks, Wi-Fi hotspots or a combination of both using a single standardized application. In addition, QuickLink Mobile Enterprise users can securely access their company's virtual private network (VPN) from any wireless connection, seamlessly integrating with the most popular VPN clients to offer a one-step security solution.
"Many enterprise-level customers rely on more than one wireless carrier," said William W. Smith, Jr., President and CEO of Smith Micro. "QuickLink Mobile Enterprise is the first product that allows IT managers to deliver a connection manager application to their corporate employees that spans multiple carrier networks, Wi-Fi, VPN and dial-up connections. This allows enterprise level customers to find the least cost and fastest connectivity option for all corporate locations."
QuickLink Mobile Enterprise will work seamlessly with the new QuickLink® Mobile Wi-Fi client and QuickLink® Server editions. The QuickLink Mobile Wi-Fi product incorporates the latest security standards including enterprise-level requirements for 802.1x wireless LAN Authentication compliant methods such as EAP-MD5, EAP-TLS, EAP-TTLS and MS-PEAP as well as WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access) security to provide standards-based access control and security for wireless networks.
In addition the QuickLink Mobile Wi-Fi client will support other widely installed industry standard Radius servers from Cisco, Microsoft and other server vendors.
"While today's workforces are embracing new ways to connect more efficiently, security remains one of their largest concerns," continues Smith. "QuickLink Mobile Wi-Fi and QuickLink Server address this concern through implementing the latest Wi-Fi security standards for integrated authentication, authorization and accounting for wireless networks."
Advanced features of QuickLink Mobile Enterprise include instant-messaging support, the ability to launch VPN connection from the main application view, and administrator preferences and options such as the ability to lock or hide rights and application features or set defaults for all user preferences.
QuickLink Mobile Enterprise supports leading wireless operators in North America including Verizon Wireless, AT&T Wireless, Cingular Wireless, T-Mobile, Alltel, Cellular One, Dobson, Sprint and Telus Mobility in Canada. Smith Micro is continually adding wireless network support for operators in Europe, Asia, South America and Australia to create a global footprint.
The QuickLink family of Enterprise products will be available in the first quarter of 2005.
