QuickLink® Mobile to be offered to Subscribers in Puerto Rico, Mexico, and Venezuela; Solution Allows Mobile PC Users to Access Internet Via Wireless
ALISO VIEJO, CA -- The Wireless & Broadband Division of Smith Micro Software, Inc. (Nasdaq: SMSI), a developer and marketer of a wide range of software and service solutions for the wireless market, announced today that its QuickLink® Mobile data connectivity product will be distributed by three Latin American operating companies of Verizon International, a subsidiary of Verizon Communications.
QuickLink® Mobile, Smith Micro's popular connectivity solution, enables users of notebook computers and other mobile PCs to access the Internet while on the road via a cable connection to their mobile phone. The new agreement with three of Verizon International's affiliates -CANTV in Venezuela, Grupo Iusacell in Mexico, and Verizon Wireless Puerto Rico-will enable thousands of business and professional users in these countries to purchase QuickLink® Mobile for their personal and organizational use.
"Smith Micro is pleased and excited to initiate this expansion of its relationship with Verizon," said William W. Smith, Jr., President and Chief Executive Officer of Smith Micro. "Our company already is a supplier for Verizon Wireless in the U.S. Now, Verizon International offers a new opportunity for our company to sell QuickLink® Mobile in dozens of markets around the world."
With QuickLink® Mobile, users can access email, upload/download files, and surf the web anytime, from any location. The kits include a cable for connecting the user's PC to the mobile device; what's more, QuickLink® Mobile offers a number of convenience features to enhance productivity and simplify Internet use from the field. Among the product's most valuable advantages is a powerful installation wizard that lets users load the software and configure the wireless hookup in minutes.
Other features of QuickLink Mobile include a Digital Dashboard that displays battery levels and signal strength, as well as an Internet call registry for easy reconciliation of calls with monthly billing statements. The product also automatically configures the user's web browser to filter graphics-intensive page downloads that consume airtime.
The target audience in Latin America for QuickLink Mobile is primarily to business customers in each of the countries covered by CANTV, Grupo Iusacell, and Verizon Wireless Puerto Rico. As part of the distribution agreement, Smith Micro will also localize QuickLink Mobile's product packaging, documentation, and user interface into Spanish.
QuickLink Mobile will be available this quarter in Mexico and Puerto Rico; with Venezuelan customers able to purchase the product before the end of 2003.
