Smith Micro Announces Availability of the Latest Version of Its WebDNA eBusiness Development Products

Jun 25, 2002
Commerce Edition and Developer Edition, Version 4.5 Available for Purchase Via Company Website; Upgrades Include UPS OnLine® Tools, WebDNAMonitor, Support for Apple® 4D WebSTAR Server Suite V

ALISO VIEJO, CA -- The Internet Solutions Division of Smith Micro Software, Inc. (Nasdaq: SMSI), a developer and marketer of software solutions for the Internet development tools market announced today the availability of the first two products in Smith Micro's WebDNA™ eBusiness Development Suite. The two products-WebDNA™ Commerce Edition and WebDNA™ Developer Edition-feature a host of new convenience and productivity features such as UPS OnLine® Tools, a new WebDNAMonitor program, and SSL (Secure Socket Layer) support for TCP connections, to make the development and operation of eCommerce sites easier than ever.

WebDNA, Smith Micro's well-known Internet application generator, is at the heart of all products in the WebDNA eBusiness Development Suite. WebDNA has generated a loyal following among eBusiness developers due to its ease of use, rapid learning curve, flexibility, performance, and its support of multiple platforms including Windows, Mac, Unix, Linux, and Solaris.

Now available for immediate purchase via the company website (www.smithmicro.com) and through Smith Micro corporate sales representatives, Smith Micro's new WebDNA products include:

  • WebDNA™ Commerce Edition, the core product in the suite, allows users to quickly design, test, implement, and manage eCommerce websites without the difficulties associated with complex languages such as ASP or Java. Commerce Edition supports the development of an unlimited number of eCommerce sites, and includes back office order management and payment authorization capabilities as well as a wizard for easy storefront creation.
  • WebDNA™ Developer Edition provides all the functionality of Commerce Edition, but at a lower price for commerce site developers or ISPs hosting a very lightly trafficked domain. Empowered for only three concurrent page requests, Developer Edition enables developers to build, alter, and test pages and functions. It leverages any internal database for dynamic data insertion, and allows users to create banner ads, online quizzes, tracking features, and other important commerce site elements.

Support for UPS OnLine® Tools
Leading the enhancements to both products is the inclusion of the full set of UPS OnLine Tools. Known for their exceptional user convenience, the UPS OnLine toolset includes the UPS OnLine Tracking Tool and the UPS OnLine Rates & Services Selection Tool. StoreBuilder administrators can activate the toolset by registering with UPS; once that is accomplished, customers will be able to select a range of shipping rates and services, then track their purchases without ever leaving the original site.

Smith Micro has made a number of other upgrades and additions that improve eBusiness performance for developers and users alike. All improvements are included in both applications.

WebDNA Monitor, a new feature, monitors the WebDNA engine continuously and restarts the engine if it terminates unexpectedly, while the TCPConnect context now supports SSL for more robust security protection. Both products also support Apple Computer's 4D WebSTAR Server Suite to effortlessly serve Web pages, database information, and files via a single application.

Other enhancements include a new 'commit' option for the CloseDatabase tag, a new preference that allows filtering of null characters, and several new payment processor options for the Edition's WebMerchant payment technology including 'Authorize Net-Direct Connect Method' and 'PayFlowPro - Verisign'.

"Developers have long appreciated the convenience and power of WebDNA and with the availability of these key products, site developers will now be able to enjoy a new level of value and flexibility as well," said Chris Lippincott, General Manager of the Internet Solutions Division of Smith Micro, Inc. "Both the Commerce Edition and Developer Edition deliver a terrific continuum of capabilities at prices that are appropriate for the need. We believe our new suite will meet the web development requirements of any merchant, hosting facility, or enterprise."

The two remaining products in the WebDNA eBusiness Development Suite, WebDNA™ Intranet Edition and WebDNA™ Enterprise Edition, will become available later this year. For more on any of the WebDNA eBusiness Development products log on to www.smithmicro.com/ISD.
