Gregory Szabo, 22-Year Wireless Telecom Industry Veteran With Vodafone-Airtouch and Motorola, Joins Smith Micro's Board of Directors

Jun 07, 2001

Aliso Viejo, Ca - Smith Micro Software, Inc. (NASDAQ: SMSI) today announced that Gregory J. Szabo, a 22-year veteran of the wireless telecommunications industry, has been appointed to the board of directors of the wireless communications and utility software company. With his appointment to a newly created seat, the Smith Micro board now has six directors.

Szabo served in a series of management positions during a 13-year career with AirTouch's wireless communications operations, prior to its acquisition by Vodafone and merger with Verizon Wireless in 2000. As Executive Director-Global Technologies, he developed the company's North American migration into a third-generation IP core network. Previously, as Vice President-Network Services, he directed the engineering and operations of the company's cellular systems in the eastern U.S., where he focused on rapidly expanding the network while maintaining quality and reducing costs.

Earlier, Szabo had been Manager of Systems Engineering at Motorola where he managed a five-state department responsible for all aspects of the design and implementation of microwave, two-way mobile radio, paging, biomedical telemetry, wireless data, and special industrial radio communication systems. He also has experience in electronic manufacturing, including research and development, with Martin Marietta.

"Smith Micro has developed software products that optimize the performance of the emerging wireless data market, a basic fundamental of having the right products at the right time," said Szabo. "Clearly, I believe the company has tremendous growth potential in combining wireless consumer technologies with the cutting edge products now under development by the Smith Micro team."

William W. Smith, Jr., President and Chief Executive Officer, indicated, "to attract an individual with the experience of Greg Szabo in one of our significant target markets is an added benefit that will serve the company well as we seek to expand our offerings to the wireless community."
